We are excited to announce the second round of the Innovation Small Grants, an initiative designed to support emergent trans-led organisations across Africa. Through this grant, we aim to strengthen trans movements by resourcing innovative projects that advance trans health, access to rights, and self-determination within our communities.
Objective
This call supports projects that enhance or pilot initiatives focused on the health, rights, and self-determination of trans individuals in Africa. We welcome proposals that creatively address critical issues such as healthcare access, legal rights, and social inclusion, while strengthening local movements.

Eligible Focus Areas
Projects should focus on at least one of the following areas:
- Trans Health: Improving access to healthcare services (including mental health, HIV care, HRT – Hormone Replacement Therapy, and SRHS – Sexual and Reproductive Health Services).
- Access to Rights: Promoting legal recognition of gender identity, advocacy for gender-affirming policies, and combating discrimination based on gender identity and expression.
- Policy Change: Advocating for and implementing policies that protect and promote trans rights and health.
- Self-Determination: Empowering trans people to make informed decisions about their bodies, identities, and lives.
Grant Amount & Disbursement
Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to USD 7,000 to support their proposed project.
- Disbursement will be made in three tranches:
- 40% upon award
- 40% upon submission of a mid-term report
- 20% upon submission of the final report
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Organisational Type:
- Formal or informal networks, organisations, or consortiums led by trans individuals.
- Applicants do not need to be formally registered but must demonstrate organisational capacity to implement the project successfully.
2. Trans Leadership:
A group, organisation, collective, or network where trans people are in decision-making roles, including setting the organisation’s strategic and financial priorities.
To be considered trans-led:
- Trans people should make up 75% of the group’s staff, Board, spokespeople, and/or decision-making body.
- If not meeting the 75% threshold, groups must demonstrate how trans people make budget, organizational, and strategic decisions.
3. Emergent Organisations:
- Newly Established: Organisations that have been formally or informally operating for less than two years.
- Transitioning: Groups that are in the process of formalising their structure, moving from an informal collective to a more structured organisation.
4. Geographical Focus:
Organisations or networks based anywhere in Africa are eligible to apply.
5. Project Duration:
The project must be implemented within 6 months from the date of the grant award.
6. Budget:
The budget for the proposed project must not exceed $7,000 USD.
7. Language:
Proposals may be submitted in English, French, or Arabic.
Application Requirements
To apply, please submit the following documents (Maximum 4 pages):
- Concept Note: Outlining the project goals, activities, expected outcomes, and timeline.
- Budget Breakdown: Detailed budget showing how the funds will be used, excluding any administrative costs.
- Organisational Overview: A brief description of your network, consortium, or organisation, including leadership structure and trans representation.
- Previous Work: If applicable, provide a summary of past work or current initiatives that align with the focus areas of this grant
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Relevance: The extent to which the proposed project addresses critical trans health, rights, and self-determination issues within the local context.
- Impact: The potential for the project to create meaningful and sustainable change for trans individuals.
- Feasibility: The organisational capacity and practical plan for implementing the project within the specified time frame and budget.
- Innovation: The creativity and uniqueness of the proposed approach to tackling trans health, rights, and self-determination challenges.

Petites Subventions pour l’Innovation
Appel à Propositions – Faire progresser la santé, les droits et l’autodétermination à travers l’Afrique
Contexte
Nous sommes ravi·e·s d’annoncer le deuxième cycle des Petites Subventions pour l’Innovation, une initiative conçue pour soutenir les organisations émergentes dirigées par des personnes trans à travers l’Afrique. Grâce à cette subvention, nous visons à renforcer les mouvements trans en finançant des projets innovants qui font progresser la santé trans, l’accès aux droits et l’autodétermination au sein de nos communautés.
Objectif
Cet appel soutient des projets qui renforcent ou expérimentent des initiatives axées sur la santé, les droits et l’autodétermination des personnes trans. Nous accueillons favorablement les propositions qui abordent de manière créative des enjeux essentiels tels que l’accès aux soins de santé, les droits juridiques et l’inclusion sociale, tout en consolidant les mouvements locaux.
Domaines prioritaires
Les projets doivent se concentrer sur au moins un des domaines suivants :
- Santé trans : Améliorer l’accès aux services de santé (y compris santé mentale, prise en charge du VIH, hormonothérapie – HRT, et services de santé sexuelle et reproductive – SSR).
- Accès aux droits : Promouvoir la reconnaissance juridique de l’identité de genre, plaider pour des politiques transaffirmatives et lutter contre la discrimination fondée sur l’identité et l’expression de genre.
- Changement politique : Plaider pour et mettre en œuvre des politiques qui protègent et promeuvent les droits et la santé des personnes trans.
- Autodétermination : Renforcer la capacité des personnes trans à prendre des décisions éclairées concernant leurs corps, leurs identités et leurs vies.
Montant et versement de la subvention
Les candidat·e·s retenu·e·s recevront une subvention allant jusqu’à 7 000 USD pour soutenir leur projet proposé.
Le versement sera effectué en trois tranches :
- 40 % à l’octroi de la subvention
- 40 % à la remise d’un rapport intermédiaire
- 20 % à la remise du rapport final
Critères d’éligibilité
1. Type d’organisation
Réseaux, organisations ou consortiums formels ou informels dirigés par des personnes trans.
Les structures n’ont pas besoin d’être enregistrées officiellement mais doivent démontrer une capacité organisationnelle suffisante pour mettre en œuvre le projet.
2. Leadership trans
Groupes, organisations, collectifs ou réseaux où les personnes trans occupent des rôles décisionnels, y compris dans la définition des priorités stratégiques et financières.
Pour être considéré·e trans-dirigé·e :
- Les personnes trans doivent représenter au moins 75 % de l’équipe, du Conseil, des porte-paroles et/ou de l’organe décisionnel.
- Si ce seuil de 75 % n’est pas atteint, le groupe doit démontrer que des personnes trans prennent les décisions budgétaires, organisationnelles et stratégiques.
3. Organisations émergentes
- Nouvelles structures : organisations existant formellement ou informellement depuis moins de deux ans.
- En transition : collectifs en cours de formalisation de leur structure, passant d’une organisation informelle à une organisation plus structurée.
4. Ancrage géographique
Les organisations ou réseaux basés n’importe où en Afrique sont éligibles.
5. Durée du projet
Le projet doit être mis en œuvre dans les 6 mois suivant l’octroi de la subvention.
6. Budget
Le budget du projet proposé ne doit pas dépasser 7 000 USD.
7. Langues
Les propositions peuvent être soumises en anglais, français ou arabe.

- Pertinence : capacité du projet à répondre aux enjeux critiques de santé, de droits et d’autodétermination trans dans le contexte local.
- Impact : potentiel du projet à créer des changements significatifs et durables pour les personnes trans.
- Faisabilité : capacité organisationnelle et plan pratique pour mettre en œuvre le projet dans les délais et le budget impartis.
- Innovation : créativité et originalité de l’approche proposée.
